Dr John Willshire
Dr John Willshire (B.Sc D.D.S) has been practicing dentistry for 40 years. He completed his training in New Zealand at the University of Otago in 1974 and has owned his own practice for most of his professional career. During this time, John has mentored a number of dental graduates and gains great satisfaction from sharing his skills and knowledge with the next generation of dental practitioners. He and his family moved to Australia in 2004. John also enjoys good hearted banter when it comes to rugby and any cross Tasman sporting rivalry. He has an excellent chairside manner and works hard to ensure his patients are fully informed about their dental options and are comfortable with medical procedures agreed upon. Despite his extensive experience, John continues to involve himself in ongoing professional development and gains great satisfaction from assisting his patients to achieve and maintain excellent standards of dental health. He stops at nothing to ensure his patients leave the practice with the confidence that only a great smile can give.
Gillian qualified from Guys Kings and St Thomas united Dental schools in September 1997 and has gained extensive clinical experience in both general practice and specialist periodontal practice over the past 18 years. Gillian uses all her experience to help educate and motivate our patients to achieve the best possible oral health. She is passionate about her role in the care of your mouth and prides herself on her gentle and thorough approach. Our patients really appreciate her optimistic and cheerful manner.

After nearly a decade of living, working and travelling in remote communities on Cape York, Julie relocated to the Sunshine Coast with her husband and two active young sons. Julie is an asset to us here at John Willshire Dental.
A Queensland graduate, Julie’s experience in oral health clinical care expands over 20 years. She completed her Dental Therapist qualification in 1993 and her Dental Hygienist qualification in 1999. Julie is passionate about promoting oral health and is committed to excellence in providing patient focused care. She loves her role as an Oral Health Therapist and with her fun loving, caring and compassionate nature she prides herself in providing a nurturing and comfortable dental experience for her young and not so young patients.
In her colourful career history, Julie has worked in both public and private sectors, in general dental and orthodontic practices in Brisbane, Sydney, Cairns, Cape York and the Torres Strait. She loves working with the John Willshire Dental Team and is extremely popular with many of our younger patients.
Julie also has an interest in humanitarian aid work and has travelled abroad as a volunteer oral health therapist providing care to children living in orphanages in India. She has also led some amazing public oral health promotion activities including toothbrushing programs in Indigenous community schools and childcare facilities and has worked alongside Indigenous Health Workers and the Royal Flying Doctor child health nurses to promote oral health for Indigenous families and for their communities. Her passion and dedication were recently acknowledged, and Julie was awarded a Queensland Health Director General’s Australia Day Award for her commitment to Indigenous oral health.
There is literally no such thing as ‘spare time’ for Julie, as she is a mother of two mischievous young boys. They capture, and at times command most of her time; that is when she is not looking in mouths. But given the opportunity, she loves a great cuppa and a good yarn.
