Crown & Bridgework

Often a painless and easy method of restoring your teeth, crown and bridges are a very popular choice today.

What is crown and bridgework?

If you have an existing tooth that is misshapen or broken, your dentist can reshape what remains to create a stump to attach an artificial tooth to. A single tooth is called a crown, while two or more joined together is called a bridge.

Does it take long?

Each case is unique, but generally speaking, no. Your tooth can be prepared in a single visit, then once the tooth is fabricated it is cemented in place.

How long to they last?

This type of restoration is incredibly effective and can last as long as the stump it is attached to!

What are they made of?

Most crowns are either metal with a porcelain shell or another strong material that looks like porcelain, called Zirconia or Emax.

If you are getting front teeth fixed, often a more translucent material is used than a back or posterior tooth. These are typically made of a stronger, but not quite as translucent material.

Your dentist will know what will work best for your unique case.

Veneers

Often a painless and easy method of restoring your veneers can literally transform your entire smile with minimal reduction of your natural teeth.

What are veneers?

Your dentist can easily reshape the surface of your existing teeth and place a mask over the top. The results have to be seen to be believed – your entire front smile can become straight and whiter in only a few short visits.

Does it take long?

Each case is unique, but generally speaking, no. Your tooth can be prepared in a single visit, then once the veneer is fabricated it is cemented in place.

How long to they last?

This type of restoration is incredibly effective and can last as long as the tooth it is attached to!

What are they made of?

Most veneers are a material that looks like porcelain, called Zirconia or Emax.

Depending on how you bite, your dentist will be able to advise on a stronger or more aesthetic material. Each veneer is hand crafted and painted to look natural.

Your dentist will know what will work best for your unique case.

The gel is applied to Custom made tray which are similar to a mouthguard. You wear your tray for 30minutes once a day. Home treatment usually takes 5 to 14 days.

What causes discolouration?

Discoloured teeth can affect your entire smile and appearance. Discolouration may result from a variety of factors, including:

  • Consumption of coffee,

  • Tea or red wine,

  • Smoking Regularly,

  • Eating highly coloured foods (such as darkly coloured berries or foods with dark dyes),

  • Part of the ageing process (stains tend to accumulate as we get older)Certain medications and Dental hygiene,

  • Tooth decay,

  • Genetics Factors that occurred as the patient’s teeth were developing (for example, the use of certain types of antibiotics),

How long does it last?

Exactly as it sounds, this procedure is meant to help whiten the colour of your teeth.

This can refresh your entire appearance with a simple, non-invasive treatment.

It’s often ideal to first understand what is causing your discolouration before beginning whitening treatment; if you eliminate certain factors like tooth decay or medication use, then you and your dentist will have a better idea of what will work for you.

There’s no single answer for every patient; your effects will depend on lifestyle factors, age, genetics and other variables.

However, on average, effects of treatment should last about a year.

Speak with your dentist at John Willshire Dental to understand your circumstances and how much time you may have before needing a top-up.

There are also a number of ways that you can help increase the longevity of your whitening procedure, such as:

  • Do not smoke.

  • Try to abstain from beverages like wine, coffee or tea.

  • Try to avoid anything with darker colours or dyes, like blueberries or heavily-dyed foods.

  • Visit your dentist for regular cleans.

  • Maintain an oral hygiene routine.
